After a successful debut season that saw them briefly lead the GRC Lites standings and take a win in Detroit, DirtFish Motorsports has added Conner Martell to their team in 2016 to make another run at the championship.
Martell, meanwhile, is no stranger to the Red Bull Global Rallycross paddock, or to high-stakes racing. He brings an extensive motocross background to Lites competition, having won the 250 C national championship race at the famed Freestone County Raceway last spring.
The Vermont native made the transition from two wheels to four last year, debuting in Lites at The Base for Rhys Millen Racing and later adding a top-five finish in Los Angeles in the fall. His quick transition from the bike to the car made him a top prospect for teams looking to add a driver for the 2016 season, with DirtFish eventually landing his services.
Martell will have plenty of resources to succeed this year, with plenty of chances to get behind the wheel and refine his skills at the DirtFish campus. With DirtFish running a single-car operation once again, he’ll also have the benefit of the team’s full focus in going for a championship.
Despite the fact that this is his first time running a full Lites schedule, Martell has that title firmly in their sights. After all, defending class champion Oliver Eriksson only had three Lites races under his belt going into 2015, and that didn’t stop him from taking the crown. DirtFish is banking on Martell to have a good shot at replicating that success this year.
