It’s one thing to jump into a new racing series as a teenage driver with big plans and high hopes. It’s another thing entirely when you’re doing it with a brand new team. But if there’s anyone who’s prepared to take on the challenge, it’s 16-year-old Harry Gottsacker.
Joining the new PMG Rallysport operation for its first GRC Lites season, Gottsacker becomes the latest driver to apply skills developed in go-karting to the 310-horsepower Lites car. Despite only beginning his karting career within the past few years, he’s already taken multiple karting championships across the United States.
Gottsacker will pair with fellow Texan Parker Chase on the PMG squad, as both drivers tackle a diverse set of racing commitments in 2016. Aside from a full Lites season, Gottsacker will be joining his teammate for select World Challenge races as he works to develop his road racing skills. He’ll also be competing in plenty of karting events along the way, ensuring that he’ll have no shortage of seat time in 2016.
The Texas native also has an advantage that many other Lites drivers don’t: a home-state race at Fair Park in Dallas in June. It’ll be just his second-ever rallycross event, but don’t underestimate the adrenaline boost that comes from having a home event on the schedule. Combine that with a well-prepared team and the raw skills that come from karting and it won’t be much of a surprise if the native Texan has something to smile about at the end of that weekend.
Long story short: there may be plenty of Lites rookies in 2016, but Gottsacker has as good of a chance as any of them to become the cream of the crop.
