If a race ever comes down to a last-lap battle to the living end, and Logan Gomez is one of the drivers in the fight for the victory, put your money on him: he once won a race by a margin of .0005 seconds, a gap so ridiculously small it seems incomprehensible without an image to illustrate it.

The driver he beat? That year’s Indy Lights champion and 2010 IndyCar rookie of the year Alex Lloyd. Not a bad driver to take down—especially in the finish recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the closest in automotive racing history.

Gomez’s racing accolades include a SuperKarts! USA Nationals win, a World Karting Association championship, a Skip Barber Racing School scholarship, and semifinalist status in Red Bull’s F1 Driver Search competition. In two full seasons of Indy Lights competition, he earned four podiums and a pair of seventh place championship finishes as part of fields that included numerous future IndyCar and top-level sports car drivers.

For his next challenge, Gomez will make his way to a Supercar, where he’ll look to adapt his open-wheel skills to rallycross. Given the successes of drivers like Scott Speed (a former Formula Renault champion) and Joni Wiman (a Formula Renault 2.0 winner before winning the inaugural Lites title), he may have the right background to succeed immediately.
