Future Stars: James Rimmer

March 15, 2017

Perhaps no driver in GRC Lites has a more unique driving background than James Rimmer, whose experience with some of the most iconic cars in rally history would make anyone jealous. Catch up with DirtFish Motorsports’ newest driver and learn what makes him tick:

First time behind the wheel of any vehicle: The first car I ever got behind the wheel of was a little old Peugeot 205 when I was 12 years old.

First race car/kart and when I got it: My first race war was my stage rally Subaru BRZ.

Driver I idolized growing up and why: Colin McRae was my idol when I was growing up. I used to sit for hours and just watch in car footage of him driving in the WRC.

First GRC Lites race and results: My first GRC Lites race was trial by fire. I quickly learned that you had to be pretty confident and aggressive in order to do well. Unfortunately I was bumped and sent into the concrete wall in the LCQ, ending my chances for making the final.

Pre-race rituals: I love listening to music when I am waiting on the pre-grid. It helps me focus and shut out any distractions.

Most memorable moment in racing career: I have had the awesome opportunity of being able to drive a lot of older historic rally cars. Driving some of them at Goodwood Festival of Speed last year was definitely a highlight for me!

Race I’d like to have back and what happened in it: I had a heat race on Sunday in LA this season where I was putting down very fast lap times and in a good position to pass the car in front of me. But I made an error and tapped the wall and had to retire. I would love to have that heat race back!

2017 goals: I want to build off some of of the success we had toward the end of last season, fingers crossed!
