Red Bull GRC Los Angeles: Rivalries to Watch
It’s the biggest event of the Red Bull Global Rallycross season, and the season finale, to boot: the series’ annual Port of Los Angeles stop takes place this weekend, and it’s your last chance of 2017 to watch the battles that have defined an incredible season of racing. From teammates facing off for the Supercar title to top up-and-comers doing battle, this year’s lone California event promises to be one of the most exciting of the year.

With every driver in the field looking to end the season on a high note, don’t be surprised to see plenty of contact and some flaring tempers between new adversaries. But based on the impressive on-track performances we saw in Seattle, these are the three head-to-head battles we’re most looking forward to watching:
Chris Atkinson vs. Patrik Sandell
Subaru Rally Team USA is back up front in Red Bull GRC competition, and both of its drivers are hitting their marks. In last month’s Seattle doubleheader, Atkinson won the Saturday pole and took third in the final, and Sandell replicated those results on Sunday. Last year in Los Angeles, Atkinson won the pole and Sandell led 10 laps before finishing third in the final. The two stage rally converts have become good friends, but it’ll be fun to watch them face off in the finale.
Cyril Raymond vs. Christian Brooks
The Lites championship may already be locked up in Raymond’s favor, but Brooks showed him some of his fiercest competition of the season when they went head to head in the second Seattle final. With just a few laps to go, Brooks pressured Raymond into taking the longer Joker Lap, inheriting the lead and building up enough of an advantage to keep it after his own Joker. With mostly pride on the line, it’ll be a treat to watch them do battle once more in Los Angeles.
Tanner Foust vs. Scott Speed
Yes, we highlighted the two Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross teammates in the Seattle rivalries piece, but this is most likely the battle for the championship. Speed holds two advantages: he’s got a 30-point lead and four wins in six tries here. But Foust is well-known for kicking it up a notch when he needs to, and posted the first perfect weekend of the year in New England in June. As with last year, expect a fierce battle for the win.
