Sunday Funday: The Big Game Edition

February 5, 2017

Happy Sunday, Red Bull GRC fans! Today is one of the biggest sporting days in America as the New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcons get ready to play for the championship in Houston. With that in mind, we thought we’d have some football-themed fun—and even give you some of our top drivers’ picks for this year’s champion!

Hitting the Road

Including the upcoming 2017 season, Red Bull GRC events have hit the home markets of half of the NFL’s 32 teams. See if you can name the year and host venue for each—we’ll spot you the teams themselves:

  • Arizona Cardinals
  • Atlanta Falcons
  • Carolina Panthers
  • Dallas Cowboys
  • Denver Broncos
  • Detroit Lions
  • Indianapolis Colts
  • Los Angeles Chargers
  • Los Angeles Rams
  • Miami Dolphins
  • New England Patriots
  • New York Giants/Jets
  • Philadelphia Eagles
  • Seattle Seahawks
  • Tennessee Titans
  • Washington Redskins

Hometown Teams

Many Red Bull GRC drivers race under the American flag, including more than two dozen last year alone in the Supercar and GRC Lites classes combined. We make no claims of any driver’s allegiance to one team over another, but we can tell you who plays in the closest stadium to their hometown:

Drivers’ Picks

We asked some of our more football-astute drivers to pick tonight’s winner. We make no claims that any of these guys know what they’re talking about, but here they are regardless:

Scott Speed (two-time defending Supercar champion): Patriots. Belichick and Brady are too much to overcome!

Steve Arpin (2016 Hard Charger Award and Supercar race winner): Patriots! Mainly because one of my good buddies and ENEOS reps David is a huge Atlanta fan, and I enjoy irritating him!

Cabot Bigham (defending GRC Lites champion): Patriots! We need more supporters!

Cole Keatts (2016 GRC Lites rookie, Seahawks fan): I’m all Falcons! The only reason I want Atlanta is that way I can say I’ve seen the Falcons’ first Super Bowl win when I was alive! ????

Alex Keyes (five-time GRC Lites race winner): Oakland Raiders. No, Detroit Lions. What if I don’t like either team? I want to see the Falcons because I like underdogs!

Tanner Whitten (first GRC Lites race winner to run Supercar in same season): We all win. The Super Bowl means there are only three weeks until Daytona!
