If you’re a fan of big, fast Red Bull Global Rallycross tracks, you’ll love this year’s season opener at Memphis International Raceway.

The first of eight courses on the 2017 Red Bull GRC schedule, the drivers who can find the most horsepower will rise to the top on the 1.18-mile course. The new layout throws it back to some of the series’ early days, using much of the facility’s .75-mile tri-oval short track but throwing in signature Red Bull GRC elements like dirt, the Joker Lap, and a signature 70-foot jump.

Drivers will launch off of the grid on the frontstretch directly in front of the fans, coming to full speed on the frontstretch through the finish line before charging through tri-oval Turn 1. Drivers will then take a hard left halfway down the backstretch for Turn 2 to enter the dirt section, before taking a tighter left Turn 3 to set up for a full-speed approach to the dirt jump. From there, drivers take a long, sweeping right on dirt into another right that returns them to pavement and up the pit lane.

At the other end of the pit lane, the field approaches a technical paved section, a right-left-left-right combination sure to test driver bravery and braking points before rejoining the tri-oval and once again powering through the finish line. This section also includes the Joker Lap, which each driver must take once during every race session; this shortcut serves as an inside line to the technical portion of the course, and should save drivers roughly two seconds.
