GRC Lites Winner Conner Martell Joins RallyX on Ice Field in Norway

Two-time GRC Lites race winner Conner Martell, who announced his second full Lites season with DirtFish Motorsports on Thursday, will join the RallyX on Ice field for the second of three races in the championship this weekend at Fugelhaugen Motorsenter in Gol, Norway. He will join a deep driver roster that includes two former GRC Lites champions, 2014 title winner Mitchell deJong and 2015 champion Oliver Eriksson.

Martell, who will team with James Rimmer on the DirtFish squad this year, posted two victories, three podiums, and four heat wins in 11 starts last season. The strength of his results kept him in the championship battle all the way until the season-ending Los Angeles doubleheader, where he ended the championship fourth in points with 359. The Colchester, VT native will be making his RallyX on Ice debut, but not his debut in winter conditions; racing alongside Rimmer, he also competed in the Big White Winter Rally this offseason.

deJong and Eriksson were the drivers to beat in last month’s season opener at Helsinge Motorstadion in Soderhamn, Sweden, as both made it to the main event and ran up front. Eriksson fell victim to a snowbank midway through the main, but deJong was able to get past fellow GRC Lites veteran Alexander Westlund for the victory. All three are on this weekend’s entry list, as is fellow 2015 and 2016 Lites competitor Sandra Hultgren.

This weekend’s RallyX on Ice action from Fugelhaugen Motorsenter can be seen on SBF Play on Saturday, March 4. Toby Moody, the voice of Red Bull GRC broadcasts on NBC Sports, will handle commentary duties. Click here for more information.
