Austin Cindric Joins Bryan Herta Rallysport for Red Bull GRC Seattle
Austin Cindric will make his Red Bull Global Rallycross Supercar debut in Seattle, Washington, next week driving the #19 Fitzgerald Gliderkits/Proline Tailgating Bryan Herta Rallysport M-Sport Supercar. Cindric has enjoyed success in a wide variety of racing vehicles over the last couple of years, including multiple wins in the GRC Lights Series. Cindric will replace Cabot Bigham in the team for Rounds 10 and 11 of the 2017 Season, with Bigham returning to the cockpit for the 2017 season finale in Los Angeles, California in October.
Cindric currently competes full-time in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, with part-time deals in the WeatherTech IMSA SportsCar Championship, the NASCAR Xfinity Series and the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards.
This will be Cindric’s first time competing in a Red Bull Global Rallycross Supercar, but he has a full season’s experience in the Lites division. The Columbus, Ohio, native raced for Olsbergs MSE in the 2015 Championship, finishing in second place with four wins and eight podiums.
The 18-year old already has had quite the career with experience across multiple racing disciples. His packed resume includes the Pirelli World Challenge, K&N Pro Series East, the US Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge and the U.S. F2000 National Championship.
Prior to obtaining his driver’s license, Cindric was nominated to the 2015 Team USA Scholarship Team, was the youngest driver to compete in the Bathurst 12 Hour, the youngest to podium in the Cooper Tires USF2000 Series and the youngest race winner in Historic SportsCar Racing Series history. Cindric has 11 podium finishes in three different series and an X Games bronze medal in the Red Bull Global Rallycross Lites Series.
“For two years, and through many different avenues, the step-up to Supercar is something I’ve been working very hard to reach.” said Cindric. “I’ve always been very passionate about rallycross racing and eager to get back in the series. Bryan Herta Rallysport has proven to be one of the top teams in the last couple of seasons, so it is a huge opportunity to prove myself in my first Supercar event, and it wouldn’t be possible without Bryan, Fitzgerald Gliderkits, and Proline Tailgating. But most important of all, I get to jump a car again!”
“I have watched Austin from his very first day in a race car alongside my own son at the Skip Barber Racing School,” said Team Owner Bryan Herta. “And have enjoyed seeing his success at every level he has competed in to date. He has the most unique and varied resume of any young driver out there today, and has proven he can quickly adapt to any racing vehicle he drives. I have no doubt this will be the case again with the Supercar and am pleased that we can offer him the opportunity to experience the exciting and competitive Red Bull Global Rallycross series,” stated team principal Bryan Herta. “I’d also like to acknowledge Cabot Bigham’s willingness to allow for Austin to have this chance, Cabot will be with us all weekend helping Austin and the team, and I look forward to him returning to the cockpit for the season finale in Los Angeles.”
The final doubleheader of the 2017 season will take place at Evergreen Speedway in Everett, Washington. Tickets starts at $55 for general admission, children 12 and under are free. Tune into NBC next Saturday and Sunday at 4:30 for live coverage of Rounds 10 and 11.
