Jenson Button Tests Olsbergs MSE’s Red Bull GRC Honda Civic

January 19, 2017

2009 Formula 1 world champion Jenson Button tested a Red Bull Global Rallycross-spec Honda Civic Coupe earlier this week at Sebring International Raceway, as the British racing star explores a future in the sport.

Button, who turns 37 today, sampled the machinery with Olsbergs MSE, who owns six Red Bull GRC titles (four in Supercar and two in GRC Lites) and brought Honda to the series for the first time in 2016. The car earned a podium in its first race weekend in Phoenix, its first of five overall, and six heat wins in its debut season.

“Jenson is enjoying himself,” OMSE team principal Andreas Eriksson told “He wanted to see what he can do and how fast he can be and so on, and that’s what we’re trying to help him answer. Obviously we both work closely with Honda, so it makes sense for him to do it with us.”

Button’s connection to the sport of rallycross goes back to his childhood, as his father John was one of Britain’s most well-known and competitive rallycross drivers in the 1970s. The younger Button made his Formula 1 debut in 2000, amassing 15 victories and 50 podiums over a 17-year career to go with his championship with Brawn GP.
