Photo Finishes Mark Sunday Heat Action From Red Bull GRC Ottawa

June 18, 2017

Tanner Foust found himself on both the winning and losing end of two separate photo finishes, while Scott Speed carried the momentum from his Big Rig Brewery Pole Award, in the Sunday heats from Red Bull Global Rallycross Ottawa. Four different Supercar drivers and five GRC Lites entrants took victories in the preliminary rounds overall.

Both Supercar drag races to the stripe came when a leading driver took the longer Joker Lap on the last lap, and both times the Joker driver lost the race. In Heat 1B, Foust saved his Joker until the very end, only to lose a side-by-side battle by .049 seconds to teammate Speed. In Heat 3A, Foust learned from his previous experience, using it to nip Subaru Rally Team USA’s Patrik Sandell by the even closer margin of .029 seconds. Louisville winner Sebastian Eriksson and Steve Arpin, winner of the past two Supercar finals, also took heat wins.

In GRC Lites, the first five heats and semifinals saw five different winners. Alejandro Fernandez, Conner Martell, Colin Braun, Alex Keyes, and Cyril Raymond all took victories before Keyes’ win in Semifinal B made him the first repeat winner.
