Scott Speed Wins Pole For Red Bull Global Rallycross Atlantic City II

August 13, 2017

Under mostly clear and sunny skies—a vast departure from Saturday’s increasingly wet and rainy qualifying session—Scott Speed earned the pole for the second leg of Red Bull Global Rallycross Atlantic City with a time of 51.231 seconds. Speed, the only driver to ever win a Supercar final at Bader Field, beat second place Steve Arpin of Loenbro Motorsports by .540 seconds.

Speed, who tracked down Subaru Rally Team USA’s Patrik Sandell in the closing laps to win yesterday’s final, saved his hot lap for the very end of the session. It was Tanner Foust, Speed’s Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross teammate, who led the session early, but he would fall to third with a best lap of 51.827. Speed, Foust, and Arpin enter today’s Supercar Round 9 separated by only 18 points in the championship, with just four races remaining on the schedule.

In GRC Lites, Alejandro Fernandez returned to the top spot in qualifying for the first time in nearly two years with a lap time of 55.379 seconds. The fourth-year Colombian driver earned the pole over his former teammate, Travis PeCoy, who took second with a time of 55.479. Saturday winner and points leader Cyril Raymond was fifth at 55.772 seconds.
