Tanner Foust Continues Seattle Dominance by Sweeping Saturday Heats
Much like last year, Evergreen Speedway has helped cure what ails Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross driver Tanner Foust. The two-time Red Bull Global Rallycross Supercar champion and last year’s event winner has swept his three heats thus far at Red Bull GRC Seattle, climbing back to second in the point standings in the process.
Foust and Oliver Eriksson earned the second-round heat victories on offer, with the former holding off teammate and championship leader Scott Speed in Heat 2B. Supercar newcomer Austin Cindric shone in Heat 2A by using Joker Lap strategy to get around Sebastian Eriksson for second place and holding on to the checkered flag. Meanwhile, Steve Arpin’s second straight last-place heat finish relegated him to third in the intermediate standings.
Chris Atkinson kicked off third-round heats with a victory, returning the polesitter to the top of the charts, while Foust coasted to a win in a hectic Heat 3B. That session was marked by a last-lap incident between Speed and Cindric, with the latter spinning the former before the jump. An infuriated Speed exited his car to confront Cindric, who was penalized a place in the finishing order for the contact.
Four different drivers took wins in GRC Lites heats and semifinals, with Alex Keyes, Christian Brooks, and Travis PeCoy each registering wins for Dreyer & Reinbold Racing and points leader Cyril Raymond winning his semifinal for Olsbergs MSE X Forces. Keyes and Brooks swept Heats 2A and 2B, while PeCoy and Brooks took the two semifinals despite each having lost right-rear tires in the previous round.
Red Bull GRC Seattle resumes with Supercar semifinals and finals for both the Supercar and Lites classes. NBC will show live action from Seattle beginning at 4:30PM ET/1:30PM PT.
