IN BRIEF: The first returning event of the 2017 Red Bull Global Rallycross season expands to a doubleheader this year, as Atlantic City’s Bader Field hosts its second annual event. LAST RACE: Red Bull GRC Indianapolis was all about Scott Speed, who continued his comeback from engine issues in Ottawa to post a clean sweep of the weekend for Indy-based Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross, Speed’s teammate Tanner Foust made it a 1-2 result for the VARX squad, while Loenbro Motorsports’ Steve Arpin completed the podium in third. Season-best finishes for Oliver Eriksson and Austin Dyne rounded out the top five behind them.

DRIVER CHANGES: There will be no changes to the driver lineup from Red Bull GRC Indianapolis last month. Every Supercar driver has started every race so far in 2017.

THE TRACK: At .902 miles, this year’s Bader Field course is significantly shorter than last year’s layout, but also boasts a more significant dirt section with four corners. The new layout also runs in the opposite direction of the inaugural track. Click here for more information.

SPEED AIMS TO GO BACK-TO-BACK AT TRACK, IN SEASON: Defending Red Bull Global Rallycross Atlantic City winner Scott Speed is also the series’ most recent Supercar race winner. The two-time defending champion swept the Indianapolis round in July for his second victory of the season, a hometown win for his Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross squad. Speed’s win in Atlantic City last season was his third in a row, enabling him to take the points lead—can he do the same thing with a doubleheader to work with this weekend?

ATKINSON CELEBRATES FIRST ANNIVERSARY OF RED BULL GRC DEBUT: Australian star Chris Atkinson made his Red Bull GRC debut one year ago in Atlantic City, joining Subaru Rally Team USA in a third car. After qualifying in the top six in his debut, he earned a permanent place on the team; since then, he’s grabbed the team’s first pole since joining the series, as well as its first heat win and podium of the 2017 season. Atkinson enters the weekend seventh in the Supercar championship.

2017 FAN FAVORITE DRIVER VOTING BEGINS: Between the Indianapolis and Atlantic City rounds, the fifth annual Red Bull GRC Fan Favorite Driver of the Year poll launched with its largest first-week turnout since the program was launched in 2013. Four-time defending Supercar award winner Tanner Foust will look to continue his streak, but the remainder of the Supercar field looks to end his perfect record. Click here for more information.

QUOTES: A selection of quotes in advance of this weekend’s Red Bull Global Rallycross Atlantic City, the eighth and ninths rounds of the 2017 Red Bull GRC season:

Scott Speed, #41 Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross: “Atlantic City was one of our favorite stops last year. Heading back for a double-header, it will be a very pivotal race in our comeback this year. We need to run fast and clean all weekend and continue to gain ground on the points championship.”

Patrik Sandell, #18 Subaru Rally Team USA: “I’m super excited to get going again after the summer break. I know the boys have been busy at Vermont SportsCar preparing the Subaru GRC Supercars for the second half of the season. We are now ready to fight for the podiums in Atlantic City. I got away with a second place finish there last year and I really like the track there!”

Mitchell deJong, #24 Honda Red Bull Olsbergs MSE: “I will be on the back foot compared to everyone else for the remaining rounds. I got to spot for most of the rounds last year, so although I didn’t get to drive at the track, I got to see it from a different perspective. I hope that will help me out when it’s time for me to get in the car. Between my teammates and I, we share data; we can bounce off of each other and we do that every race and session. It’s good to have that experience, and I’m hoping it can help us out.”
