Red Bull GRC Seattle: GRC Lites Rounds 10-11 Recap

September 11, 2017

IN BRIEF: Christian Brooks won Sunday’s GRC Lites final from Evergreen Speedway, but it was Cyril Raymond who locked up the season-long championship with a race remaining in the 2017 season. It was the second title in a Lites car in eight days for Raymond, who took the European championship last weekend, and also won Saturday’s final for a class-leading sixth victory of the year.

This weekend’s GRC Lites finals can be seen on Wednesday, September 13 at 4:30PM ET/1:30PM PT on the NBC Sports Network.

SATURDAY RECAP: Despite a second-round tire issue that set him back in the heats, Raymond used a semifinal victory to earn a front row spot for the final. After getting past Travis PeCoy for the lead in the main event, the French driver hung on until the checkered flag. Brooks would eventually get past PeCoy, his Dreyer & Reinbold Racing teammate, for second place.

SUNDAY RECAP: Heavy first-lap contact not only forced a red flag and restart, but also eliminated James Rimmer, who had won each of his heats and semifinals, from racing contention. When the event restarted, Raymond took an early lead despite racing without any front bodywork, but Brooks closed the gap by the halfway point and used a superior Joker strategy to take the lead for good.

QUOTES: Driver quotes from Red Bull GRC Seattle:

Cyril Raymond, #13 Olsbergs MSE X Forces: “We’re the champions of GRC Lites! Thanks to Olsbergs MSE, Red Bull, and all of my French fans. It’s my second title in one week! The setup of the car was perfect on the dirt, thanks Josh and the team, and nice job from my teammate Cole Keatts taking fourth on Saturday.”

Christian Brooks, #44 Dreyer & Reinbold Racing: “I can’t thank all the boys from Dreyer & Reinbold Racing enough for keeping my car top notch for every outing, my family for the endless amount of support, and all of my sponsors who make it possible to do what I love. Let’s bring another one home for my people in Los Angeles!”

Alex Keyes, #24 Dreyer & Reinbold Racing: “What a crazy day! We had a problem in qualifying, tons of comebacks in the heats, and lots of great racing. We overcame an eighth place starting position to come home with a third place. As much as I miss winning, this coming from the back has been entertaining as well. Thank you to Wix Filters, Dreyer & Reinbold Racing, and everyone else for an insane weekend. One round to go!”
