Top GRC Moments: Semifinal
2013 Red Bull GRC Sportsmanship award winner Bucky Lasek wanted to make sure that he earned a majority of his hardware in 2014 with strong finishing results. At X Games Austin, he did just that: two days after failing to medal in skateboard vert, a discipline he had swept in all four X Games events last year, Lasek powered into the Supercar final and persevered for a runner-up finish. It was Lasek’s first-ever Red Bull GRC podium and first of three this year.
Without the benefit of a larger budget that other teams in the garage may have had, it was clear that Geoff Sykes would be spending the 2014 GRC Lites season as an underdog. But no matter the odds, the former US Touring Car champion drove with heart, posting second-fastest speeds in Daytona and Seattle, coming within one spot of an X Games medal, and even climbing to as high as third in Lites points early on in the season.
